In 2015, to help mark the 40th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), NCCD joined in the effort of the 6 by ’15 Campaign. This campaign raised awareness and brought people together to work toward achieving six national goals: Community Living, Early Childhood, Education, Employment, Health Care, and Transition. These six goals became the topics for our policy briefs and serve as the foundation of our work to ensure people with disabilities experience equality in all aspects of life.
In 2016, we added two additional briefs: Managed Care and Restraint & Seclusion in Schools; and in 2019, we added a brief on Olmstead. We believe these issues require the attention of our legislators to help us achieve a better quality of life for children and adults living with disabilities in Nebraska. All of these briefs have been updated for 2019.
